The young Bardiani-CSF 7 Saber rider was the team’s best finisher in Casalincontrada.
Bardiani-CSF 7 Saber opened the Giro d’Abruzzo with Filippo Turconi finishing 13th. The opening stage, from Cupello to Casalincontrada over 155 kilometres, featured a demanding route with continuous ups and downs and an uphill finale.
The day’s breakaway was caught with around 1.5 kilometres to go, setting up the battle on the final climb. Alessandro Fancellu took the victory ahead of Mathys Rondel and Diego Ulissi.
For Bardiani-CSF 7 Saber, Filippo Turconi crossed the line in 13th place, finishing as the team’s best-placed rider on the opening day.
Tomorrow, the race continues with Stage 2 from Popoli Terme to Caramanico Terme, covering 143 kilometres, with another uphill finish.
