COMUNICATO STAMPA
Bardiani-CSF 7 Saber played an active role in the first road stage of Tirreno-Adriatico, the 206 km from Camaiore to San Gimignano, thanks to a long breakaway by Manuele Tarozzi.
The Italian rider joined the day’s breakaway in the early stages of the race, building a significant advantage over the peloton, which controlled the race for much of the stage.
Tarozzi stayed out front for around 167 km, with the breakaway coming to an end 39 km from the finish, when the peloton increased the pace ahead of the most demanding part of the course.
In the finale, shortly before the gravel sector leading into San Gimignano, Martin Marcellusi was involved in a crash. Fortunately, he did not suffer any consequences and was able to finish the stage.
The stage victory went to Mathieu van der Poel, who outsprinted Isaac Del Toro and Giulio Pellizzari at the finish in the historic centre of San Gimignano after a three-man sprint.
Tirreno-Adriatico will continue tomorrow with the 221 km stage from Cortona to Magliano de’ Marsi.
